GETTING STARTED

A little order
for your collection.

1. Start with your game and loader

Install your game through its official client. Some games need a separate loader such as BepInEx or SMAPI. Heimdall finding a game does not mean its mod system is supported or ready. Check the game’s modding instructions first.

2. Discover your library

In the Windows app, scan collections to find supported installations. Use Add game for a custom location. The game dropdown selects the installation you manage. Its adjacent rescan checks that game’s mod directory.

3. Review and manage mods

Close the game before changing mods. Heimdall can handle supported BepInEx, SMAPI, Minecraft Java, The Sims 4, The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077 folder layouts. Support varies by mod packaging and loader. Review each mod’s requirements; do not install arbitrary archives into a game root.

Update and conflict checks depend on available metadata and distributor access. A clean scan is not a guarantee of compatibility or safety. Keep backups of saves and respect anti-cheat restrictions.

4. Move your configuration

Open Settings → Export Config in the Windows app. Import that JSON file into the browser workspace to review games, search mods, and edit saved enabled states. Export the result, then import it into the desktop app to review the restore plan. Missing games, unavailable downloads, and changed local files may require manual attention.

What the browser can do today

The browser workspace is a local configuration editor. It does not install a background agent, scan your drives, read launcher sessions, install games, or directly toggle installed mods. Those operations belong to the Windows assistant.

Licenses and recovery

Paid access is checked by the licensing service. When a license expires or is revoked, Heimdall returns to free. Your installed mods remain in place, and restore/export stay available. The public paid version does not accept BETATESTER as a paid license.

Distributor accounts

Games and mods remain with their respective stores and creators. Some providers require an account, API access, or manual download. Heimdall does not bypass provider restrictions or grant rights to redistribute third-party content.
